When

Thursday 20 November from 1pm to 4pm Thursday 4 December from 1pm to 4pm

Gain the tools, confidence and frameworks to share your own stories in this 2-part video workshop for people with disability.

Learn to create a short video that matters to you using just your smartphone.

Whether you want to raise awareness about issues you care about, share your lived experience, showcase your creative work or develop new digital abilities, you'll leave this workshop with a finished video and the confidence to keep creating.

These workshops are for people with lived experience of disability, including people with non-visible disabilities, mental health conditions, intersectional experiences of disability and carers.

No previous video experience is needed. Just bring your smartphone or tablet suitable for filming with (at least) 2GB of free space, a charger for your device, headphones and your ideas.

Session 1 – Thursday 20 November:

  • Finding your story – what do you want to say and why?

  • Structuring your story for impact

  • Smartphone filming techniques anyone can use

  • Planning your video content

Between sessions, you'll capture footage for your story in your own time, with facilitator support available.

Session 2 – Thursday 4 December:

  • Simple video editing using free tools

  • Adding text, music and finishing touches

  • Strategies for sharing your video online

  • Completing your finished video ready to publish

You must attend both sessions to create your complete video story from ideation through to editing.

Whether you're just starting or already post content online, these workshops will help you build skills, find your authentic style and connect with others.

Each session will include a light catered lunch and each participant will receive a RODE SmartLav microphone and smartphone tripod to keep, as well as access to an online course.

Bookings essential as places are limited. Support workers and service animals are welcome to attend. The venue is wheelchair accessible (via lift) and has accessible bathrooms.

These workshops will be run by Digital Storytellers for the City of Sydney to celebrate International Day of People with Disability.

We aim to present inclusive and accessible events. If you have any particular access or communication needs please contact Alex Blair on ablair@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au or detail any needs during the Eventbrite registration process.
