La Cocina is the latest film from Mexican director Alonso Ruizpalacios, starring Academy Award nominee Rooney Mara (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) and nominated for multiple awards including the Golden Bear at Berlin Film Festival 2024.
As the lunchtime rush hits the frenetic underbelly of a Times Square restaurant, a diverse crew of immigrant cooks and waitstaff scramble to serve hungry tourists and a hot-headed boss, all while chasing their own slice of the American Dream. When a wad of cash goes missing, simmering suspicions and tensions quickly boil over.
Described as 'The Bear on steroids", this beautifully shot film offers a darkly funny examination of modern capitalism and the everyday workers caught in its gears.
