Saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter was one of the most important jazz musicians of our time. He was an integral member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, Miles Davis’ Second Great Quintet, and Weather Report, and was equally renowned for his compositions as for his saxophone playing.

Many Shorter compositions have become jazz standards, and his music has earned worldwide recognition, critical praise, and commendation. Shorter won 12 Grammy Awards.

We celebrate Wayne’s life and musical legacy by performing a number of his key works from his classic 1960s Blue Note albums.

All five musicians assembled for this performance are huge fans of the music and perfectly suited to bring this music to life.

  • Tom Avgenicos – trumpet

  • Matthew Ottignon – tenor saxophone

  • Matt McMahon – piano

  • Phil Stack – bass

  • James Waples – drums
