In the late 1980s Mavis Gock Yen began interviewing elderly Chinese Australians from all around Australia, recording hours of conversations.
The result is twelve fascinating and absorbing personal stories that tell of the struggles and successes of Chinese families at the turn of the last century as they settled in Australia during the Colonial era.
These stories speak of family life, of Chinese-Australian customs and the solidarity of Aboriginal and Chinese in the 'white Australian policy' era.
This book will change how you think about Australian history. Join the book’s editors Siaoman Yen and Richard Horsburgh and historian Dr Sophie Loy-Wilson for this special Heritage Festival event.
