Silver Sessions is back in 2023! Silver Sessions is a partnership between the City of Sydney and ACON, hosting events for LGBTQ+ women aged 55+.

This event is intergenerational, welcoming everyone aged 18+, to share, listen and learn about queer herstories from those who paved the way for LGBTQ+ women in Sydney. This year we are partnering with Sad Dyke Sundays at the Bearded Tit to host a panel discussion about queer women’s spaces and sexual cultures from the 1970s-90s!

Panellists

C.Moore Hardy is a queer photographer with 3 decades of work documenting women’s, queer, activist, and political scene in this city particularly. Her work was in 4 exhibitions during Sydney World Pride. It can be viewed in the City of Sydney archives online and in person at the Australian Queer Archives in Melbourne.

Lisa Salmon (she/they) launched Australia’s first lesbian sex-positive zine, Wicked Women with her partner Jasper Laybutt in 1988. The zine evolved into a magazine that sparked a revolution in lesbian circles of inner city Sydney and Melbourne with parties and events including the infamous Ms Wicked competition. Lisa has been writing a memoir and hosts events that revisit this era of third wave of feminism when the pursuit of pleasure was a powerful political protest. Current discussions about gender, feminism, identity, and queer representation inform her work.

Lesley Hudson is one of the founding members of the Vixens which started in 1989 – 1990, and later became known as the Dykes on Bikes Sydney.

Bookings recommended.

Silver Sessions aims to provide accessible events to the community. Please contact Lee Wang lwang@acon.org.au with any access requirements. The Bearded Tit is an accessible venue.
