Extra! Extra! Read all about it! The Shore Drama Department is thrilled to bring the Tony Award-winning musical Newsies to the stage in 2025. Based on the 1992 Disney film and inspired by the true events of the 1899 Newsboys Strike in New York City, this high-energy production is packed with rousing anthems, spectacular choreography, and an inspiring story of courage and unity.

Originally premiering at the Paper Mill Playhouse in 2011, Newsies took Broadway by storm in 2012, running for over 1,000 performances before launching a successful national tour. Now, Shore is set to bring this beloved show to life, joined by students from SCEGGS Darlinghurst, Wenona, Roseville, and Queenwood. Audiences can expect dazzling dance numbers, soaring vocals, and powerful performances from Shore’s talented cast.

With a dynamic score by Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast) and lyrics by Jack Feldman, Newsies tells the story of Jack Kelly, a charismatic leader of a band of teenage newsboys who rally together to stand up against powerful newspaper publishers. It’s a tale of resilience, friendship, and fighting for what’s right – one that continues to resonate with audiences today.

Make sure you don’t miss this spectacular production, running from March 27–29 and April 2–5 2025.

Whether you’re a fan of high-energy musical theatre or simply looking for a night of inspiring entertainment, Newsies is a show that will leave you cheering.

Seize the day and join us for an unforgettable theatrical experience!
