What is Saltwater School?
Saltwater School (SWS) isn’t a place, it’s a feeling, it’s a way of exploring and learning about some of the beautiful aspects, environments, habitats and critters that inhabit one of the most beautiful harbours in the world – Sydney Harbour. SWS is an established provider of group activities including guided water-based activities and curriculum-based field studies lead by a Marine Biologist.
On request, SWS also runs the above activities for private groups. Grab another family, organise a group of friends or try something new for the next birthday celebration!
Looking for something different to do in the Summer School holidays? SWS has you covered with school holiday activities that the whole family can enjoy – including kayak, snorkel, SUP and beach art & games.
For those that are confident with their skills and knowledge but don’t have the gear, snorkel equipment, kayaks and SUP's are available for hire!
Where is Saltwater School?
SWS is located on the shores of the stunning Chowder Bay, with our closest suburb being Mosman on Sydney’s North Shore. Our office is located just 10 meters from the water in a 100 year old sandstone ex-military building. SWS is accessible via public transport from Clifton Gardens or Chowder Bay Road.
With our location being surrounded by Sydney Harbour National Park, one of people’s favourite ways to access Chowder Bay is to catch a Sydney Ferry from Circular Key to the Taronga Zoo wharf then walk the 2.5km track along the harbour's edge to SWS.
For those that prefer to drive, there is limited paid parking at Chowder Bay, Clifton Garden’s and in the adjacent National Park.
Make a Day of it!
With the location of SWS being surrounded by natural bushlands, the foreshore of Sydney Harbour, beautiful parks and some great food and coffee, it’s a place worth staying a little longer!
Some of our favourites include:
Hanging out in Clifton Garden’s, swimming, playing in the park and soaking up some sun.
Grabbing a coffee and a bite to eat at Drift Café
For something more substantial you could try Ripples Chowder Bay or L'Heritage
Revel in the stunning vistas while exploring the history of Sydney by walking some of the many tracks that criss-cross the spectacular Middle Head
Spend the morning at Taronga Zoo, walk the foreshore track to Clifton Gardens and spend the afternoon doing a water activity with us at SWS
