Discover some of the fascinating Olympics memorabilia that Sydneysiders have held onto and share your own memories in this interactive discussion that celebrates collectors and Olympics nostalgia.
21 years on, the impact of the Sydney Olympics on Australia’s identity continues to be felt. It lives on not only in people’s minds but also in personal collections of merchandise and paraphernalia – a volunteer’s uniform, autographed photos of athletes, soft-toy Olympic mascot characters and much, much more – carefully stored away in homes across Sydney and elsewhere.
There is also an entire archive of reports, plans, publications and other material that was produced for the Sydney Olympics and collected by NSW State Archives some of which will be featured in the upcoming History Reflected exhibition. Part of Sydney’s Olympic story, this ‘official’ material adds to the memory and record of this once-in-a-lifetime event.
