Moving between stylised and abstract modes of expression, the paintings emerge as a visual diary of Susanna Chen Chow’s inner relationship with the Australian landscape.
Her own emotive contour is reflected in the sites she paints. The lines, shapes and colours of the outback deserts, hills, trees and flowers are recreated from her collected memories and experiences.
In a similar vein, the ceramic sculptures by Alma Studholme appear as stylised figurative and abstract forms that weave together myth, mind and nature. The motifs of trees, branches, flowers and the moon are fused with visual references to the mind and body that experience them.
