A widowed gay Black man bonds with his straight white teen stepson over creature features in this award-winning comedy-drama.
Monsters of the American Cinema, Christian St. Croix’s award-winning play, comes to the Sydney Fringe Festival following multiple critically acclaimed runs across the U.S.
Playwright Christian St. Croix teams up with San Diego, California theatre group, Loud Fridge, to present this thought-provoking comedy-drama that the San Diego Union-Tribune calls “a funny, touching story of the monsters within.”
When his husband dies, Remy Washington, a Black man, finds himself both the owner of a drive-in movie theatre and a caregiver to his late husband’s straight, white teenage son, Pup. United by their love of classic American monster movies, the two have developed a warm and caring familial chemistry – but their relationship fractures when Remy discovers Pup and his friends have been bullying a gay teen at his school. Told through dueting monologue and playful dialogue, Monsters of the American Cinema is a haunting and humorous tale about fathers and sons, ghosts and monsters.
