The Lebanese Film Festival Australia is proud to present its twelfth edition in Sydney. This year’s event will showcase 34 films including 11 feature films, 3 restrospective films, 10 short films and 11 documentary films. Key highlights include:
Opening Night – Screening of comedy feature film ‘Arze’. Opening Night is an opportunity for guests to immerse in Lebanese film, sound and flavours. The highlights reel from 2023 gives you a taste of what can be expected from our opening night.
Two film screenings at Hoyts Broadway, including Back to Alexandria on Thursday 22 August at 7.30pm and opening film, Arze, on Wednesday, 28 August at 7.30pm. Back to Alexandria brings Nadine Labaki back to our big screen, in this French-Swiss production!
A special day dedicated to short films and documentaries. On Saturday, 24 August, LFF will hold 9 sessions at the Bankstown Arts Centre. Documentaries and shorts range from short comedy films to documentaries on how Lebanon is still reeling from the impacts of current internal and regional turmoil. Documentary films include The Soil and The Sea, the story of mass graves across Lebanon, to Heaven on Earth, the story of missions in North Lebanon seeking to help people through taboo issues of addiction and rehabilitation. We are proud to be presenting one local Australian productions Seeds of Gold (by James El Azzi) featuring a cast of local and Lebanese-Australian actors and actresses. El Azzi will be presenting his film at 5.55pm at the Bankstown Arts Centre on 24 August.
The film program also includes a range of retrospective and classic films, including the 1998 classic, West Beirut, comedy film Wanted and the animation of one of Lebanon's most famous literary exports, Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet.
Closing night – Comedy film ‘Back to Alexandria’ starring Nadine Labaki, will be screened at the Bankstown Sports Club, preceded by Lebanese food and drinks. Join us in wrapping up the Festival on what is normally a Festival favourite event!!
