We are welcoming Julie Paterson back to Tiliqua Tiliqua for another memorable, co-operative, art-making adventure.
Julie will be creating a large-scale, stencil-printed artwork in the gallery to draw urgent attention to the ongoing coral bleaching events devastating the Great Barrier Reef and Ningaloo Reef. Growing up in the UK, Julie pored over her kids version of Encyclopaedia Britannica, admiring the shapes and colours and variety of the coral – these tiny animals that make up the ecosystems of Australia’s reefs.
‘Within my lifetime, unchecked global heating has created conditions that endanger the Great Barrier Reef to the point of extinction,’ says Julie. 'We need to repair the damage – and with political will we can. That’s what my work will be about.’
The finished artwork will then be cut into pieces and repaired, with assistance from other hand-sewers.
As well as the chance to observe (and maybe take part in) a work of art being made, there will be the opportunity to purchase examples of Julie’s work from the brand new and very exciting Cloth Pop-Up trailer.
