Join us for a guest lecture by curator Taarati Taiaroa, as she details her research and practice to date. Taiaroa is visiting from Ngāmotu/ New Plymouth as part of our Visiting Curators Programme designed to foster deeper engagement between practitioners and institutions in Aotearoa and Australia.

Taiaroa (Te Atiawa, Ngãti Tuwharetoa, Ngãti Apa) is Assistant Curator of Contemporary Mãori Art at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery Len Lye Centre. Her most recent exhibition is 'Te Hau Whakatonu, A Series of Never-Ending Beginnings (2023-24), a survey of Toi Mãori from the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery Collection. Her curatorial debut laid the foundation for a renewed focus on Mäori art programming at the gallery. Previously, Taarati was Assistant Curator of Mãori Art at Auckland Art Gallery. Her research has focused on Toi Mãori exhibition histories, Mãori post-minimalism and the ethics of collaborative practice.

The Visiting Curators Programme is made possible through collaboration with hosting institutions Te Uru Waitākere Contemporary Gallery and Auckland University of Technology.
