Generalissimo is Dead - A Megagame

When

Saturday 23 March 2024 from 9:30am to 5:30pm Saturday 6 April 2024 from 9:30am to 5:30pm

The Generalissimo is Dead is a megagame, a new art form in the gaming and interactive theatre space that reached popularity in 2014 and has been growing ever since.

Megagames are usually full day events, involve 40-80 people (and sometimes more), and have a wide variety of themes. They have rules, varying in complexity from game to game, and mix roleplaying, simulation, team-building and board gaming into a unique experience. Their focus is on social skills (like negotiation and diplomacy), problem solving, and of course having a lot of fun!

Megagames are facilitated by a team of volunteers who guide players through the game. They are held in Sydney by Sydney Megagamers, a not-for-profit hobbyist group who have been designing and running these games for 10 years.

Participants require no prior knowledge or information. Everything needed to join in the game is provided to players before the event, including rules and a pack of information that briefs players on their role in the game.

This game in particular is quite beginner-friendly as it's rules are light and simple, and most of the game is driven by player interaction and negotiation (and not lots of numbers or dice, which sometimes can be intimidating!)

You can read more about megagames on our website.

This game's setting:

In recent years the proud nation of Yugenya has gone from being a forgotten backwater to the frontline of an economic cold war between China and the West.

While some would claim that its importance was in part due to the late Generalissimo’s fearless leadership, most people agree that this positioning is mostly due to the discovery of large, rare earth metals deposits across the country.

In the latter years of the Generalissimo’s life, he used the wealth from mining these metals to expand the revolutionary guard, build a navy and establish an air force. Critics would also say he channelled much of the wealth into paranoia-fuelled schemes against imagined foes, while others would point to the undeniable expansion of Yugenya’s economy which his actions supported.

Regardless of which side of the Generalissimo’s reputation you believe, Yugenya has never been so important. The loss of the guiding hand at this time is a crisis for all party members!
