Robert Boynes: Works from the Last 10 Years
The work of Australian artist Robert Boynes has undergone many transformations over the course of his career. From his fascination with capitalist culture in the 1970s to surveillance in the 1990s, one of the constant threads throughout Boynes’ work is the exploration of the urban environment. Fractured Image and Crackling Light delves into Boynes’ continual search for a capture of the human experience, through bringing together a selection of exemplary works from his studio.
Over the last 20 years, MAY SPACE has hosted 15 solo exhibitions of Boynes' work. As a testament to his successful career, Boynes has work held in every major art collection across Australia and internationally. These impressive collections include but are not limited to the Museum of Contemporary art in Chicago, the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, and the Art Gallery of NSW. Boynes' work was also curated into the major blockbuster exhibition Pop to Popism at the AGNSW (2014-2015).
