Have you ever wondered who lived in your house before you?

The history of a house can reveal a wealth of information about the building and the lives of the people who lived in it. This program of presentations will give you the basics for researching your house, or a house from your family’s history, using the library’s collections.

Sessions include:

  • Maps and subdivision plans – Discover the library’s collection of maps produced by the NSW Lands Department and others to show land ownership. You will also see some unique, decorated examples and learn how to access subdivision plans online.

  • Directories – We’ll show you how to use NSW directories such as Sands to help trace the age of your building. You may even discover the previous names of your property!

You’ll also see a variety of items from the collection that will further help you discover how to research the history of a house.

Please meet at the Michael Crouch Room, Mitchell building, Level 1.
