Expert talk with Stephen Jolson

When
  • Thursday 21 November 2024 from 6pm to 8pm
Cost

Adult: $15

Stephen Jolson is a third-generation survivor of the Holocaust; a grandchild of refugees who emigrated to Melbourne in 1947 and formed part of the largest community of Holocaust survivors in the world per capita, outside of Israel.

In this talk at Sydney Jewish Museum, Stephen will present his design for Memorial Room, located within the new Melbourne Holocaust Museum. Its purpose, to allow visitors to pay their respect to the victims of the Holocaust and their families who settled in Melbourne after the war. His design is rooted in symbolism, and how time and perspective may influence our interpretation of history.

As a student, Stephen created a database of Holocaust survivors in Melbourne, interviewing and recording the stories of thousands of refugees whose memories are captured in the Memorial Room.
