Join us at the Museum for an enlightening expert talk on the Romaniotes, a Jewish community that thrived in mainland Greece from late classical antiquity. Known as the Yevani, the Romaniotes wrote in Greek using the Hebrew alphabet and were active members of Greek society for over twenty centuries.
Discover the rich cultural and social contributions of the Romaniotes, their surviving early monuments, and their enduring legacy. We will also explore the contemporary Romaniote community in New York, who cherish their Greek origins with affection and nostalgia.
This expert talk with Professor Vrasidas Karalis offers a rare opportunity to learn about the Romaniotes’ unique history and their lasting impact on Jewish and Greek heritage.
This event is held in conjunction with The University of Sydney and Mandelbaum House.
