Mirek is an elite tennis player desperate to be Number One. Bree is an Olympic sprinter who worships Oscar Pistorius. They are madly in love, highly photogenic and wildly ambitious.

They have the world at their feet…well, almost. How far is Mirek willing to go to beat his nemesis Roger Federer and what is Bree willing to do to get gold, gold, gold?

This show had a successful development run at New Theatre in early 2020. Now it’s back in a riotous revamped version.

Writer Wendy Lewis says: “There’s an obsession these days with being noticed and making sure the world knows how fabulous you are. I wanted to write a provocative piece that satirises that desire for recognition and plays with the fine line between fame and infamy.”

Director Jane Eakin says: “What drew me to this musical was the sheer audacity of the material. It holds a mirror up to a society so hungry to get what it wants that it will stop at nothing.”

Musical theatre star Andy Leonard (Guido in Nine, Paul Keating in Keating! The Musical at the Seymour Centre) shines with his comedic timing as Mirek/Vlad/Bik; Multi-award winning performer Dianne Weller (Professor T, Cellule de crise) ramps it up as the increasingly unhinged Bree; and pianist extraordinaire Lindsay Partridge (Ruthless! Priscilla, and every professional musical worth seeing in Australia) completes the multi-talented cast.

Full of memorable songs such as Mirek’s opening power ballad Second, Bree’s chilling Not a Shred and the wacky duet All I want, Defeating Roger Federer will have you laughing, squirming and tapping your feet. Get in a Roger-Federer-state-of-mind by listening to some songs from the show right here.

Suggested rating: MA15+

Warning: Contains rude words, offensive themes and lots of singing.
