Dancing Through Disaster is an exhibition of work completed but unseen during the last few years of bushfires, floods, and lockdowns.
It comprises small sculptures, a series of embroidered paintings that are reflections on climate change and a joyous group of lace portraits of dancers with accompanying videos by Sue Healey, one of the country’s premier dance choreographer/filmmakers.
The paintings and portraits are made of thread and tarlatan sourced from the garbage bins of printmaking studios. Discarded fabric pieces were repurposed, and their random ink blotches became the inspiration for new hand embroidered and machine sewn works.
In this sustainable spirit, Jane will host a free textile Repair Café in the gallery on Saturday 15 October. To book a spot phone 0415 110 123.
This event is part of the Sydney Craft Week Festival 7-16 October 2022.
