Creative writing class

When

Thursdays, 6:30pm to 9pm Thursday 9 February 2023 to Thursday 16 March 2023

Cost

Adult: $250.00

Think you’ve got a book or blog in you, but you’re not sure where to begin?

Turn your yearning into practical learning with routines & readings, in-class exercises & targeted advice that will enhance your creative capacity and get you writing.

Discover what makes great prose and how craft enhances art, replace procrastination with ‘habits of strength’, and master the technical ‘tricks of the trade’ while also having your questions answered about all aspects of narrative writing and story-telling: character, plot, setting, theme, editing & revision and more.

Benefit from reading some work out loud and receiving immediate feedback and targeted homework assignments to further hone your skills. Suitable for beginners and emerging writers interested in fiction and creative non-fiction/life-writing — memoir, personal essay, journaling, travel-writing (including blogs), nature-writing, biography and family history. Janet is an award-winning novelist, essayist, reviewer, short story writer, poet... with 20 years teaching and coaching experience. Bring writing materials with you and perhaps something to eat and drink.

What's been said about previous courses:

“ I hung on every word Janet said... She has a penetrating intellect and a generous nature. The wealth of information she provided was like getting a mini master’s degree on the subject.”

“ I found the course very informative and worthwhile. The tutor was well read, very well prepared, shared a lot of knowledge, insights, gave confidence and enthusiasm. Very helpful. “

“ Excellent, clear, sticks to the point. Doesn’t get into back-slapping, doesn’t let people waffle. Very structured and detailed.“

“ A lot of material covered - loved her energy and perspective.”

“ Lots of information, lots of suggested exercises, lots of prepared sheets - very good for revision.”

“ Janet is a ‘live wire’ and kept everyone interested all the time.”
