Build a Musical!

Build a musical with Greta Gertler Gold & Katrina Retallick

A 3-hour introductory workshop for kids aged 8-12, about how to create their own new musicals.

"Book Week Meets Glee!" 

Through a series of fun, short exercises, Greta and Katrina will lead the children through the process of writing their own musicals, starting with a "Character Song" from their favourite book, or from their own imaginations.  

Using theatrical prompts and improvisation exercises, a box of mystery costumes, an "inspiration lucky dip" of lyrics and surprises and more, the duo will illustrate the various ways that collaborators can begin to create a new musical, shaping a loose outline of the story and narrative arcs of its characters. 

This workshop will also be a chance to study and sing some classic showtunes along the way. And to learn some material from lesser-known Australian musicals. 

Greta and Katrina collectively draw on many decades of experience internationally, as creators and performers of new musical theatre.
