English folk singer-songwriter and guitarist Blanco White is playing his first ever Australian shows in February 2024 and he's coming to Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory!

Blanco White started as the solo project of Londoner Josh Edwards in 2014. After studying guitar in Cádiz (Spain), and later the Andean instrument the charango in Sucre (Bolivia), Edwards’ aim was to begin bringing together elements of Andalusian and Latin American music alongside influences closer to home.

Between 2016 and 2017, signed to London based indie Yucatan, Blanco White released his first two EPs, The Wind Rose and Colder Heavens. By 2018 and with the release of his third Nocturne EP, Blanco White was selling out shows from Europe to the States, along with his most recent tour across Autumn 2019.

With every release Blanco White has gone up a gear, from the haunting acoustic sound of 2016’s The Wind Rose EP to the meatier, more expansive recent single On The Other Side, the first taste of his nearly-completed, self-produced debut album. The second, Papillon, released in September, turns the intensity up with Josh’s most mesmerising vocal to date delivering his trademark poetic lyrics.

Following the release of his successful first album On the Other Side in 2020, a UK headline tour in May 2022, and a Jose Gonzalez and Gregory Alan Isakov support across Europe, Blanco White is now back with his new album Tarifa, out September 29.

Blanco White has already crafted a sound of his own with his off-world explorations of Latin American and Andalusian folk music. On Tarifa, Josh Edwards’ second solo album, he mines new depth within his colourful fusions of folk with indie and electronics, while embracing the thrill of collaboration, discovery and cultural exchange.

“Music has always been my vehicle for getting in touch with the transcendent, the mystical and the spiritual” Edwards says. “Especially when you’re pairing it with big reverbs or temple-like spaces designed to help us get in touch with those feelings. That’s kind of how the music is often guiding what I’m writing about. With synthesisers, those spaces can take on a cosmic feel too, something I always felt that song ‘Giordano’s Dream’ had. I’m fascinated by sci-fi and space, and think about that stuff a lot.”
