What kind of music is WCS danced to?

From Top 40 to RnB to hip hop or even blues, this dance is perfect to let you get your groove on to the music you love the most. If you cannot stop tapping your foot or swaying to the music you hear on the radio, this is your opportunity to learn how to dance to those beats.

Do I need to bring a dance partner?

No. You can come to this class with or without a partner. The class structure has participants rotating, so whether you bring a partner or attend on your own there will be plenty of people for you to dance with. If you don’t have a partner don’t let that stop, just invite all of your friends to come and learn with you for even more fun.

Who is your teacher?

Nathan Toussaint, with over 25 years of dance experience, and Ely King, will teach the Beginners West Coast Swing Crash Course at Best of the Best on Thursday, 12 September 2024. Nathan has a wealth of experience in various styles of swing dance and is highly skilled in teaching them. He has danced, taught, and performed in many styles including lindy hop, balboa, and west coast swing. With his extensive knowledge and experience, you are sure to have an amazing learning experience in his workshop.

What will you learn?

West coast swing is a partner dance style that is known for its elasticity. You'll learn the basics of this elasticity, simple patterns, and fundamental footwork of this versatile dance style.

What else is included?

After your 2-hour crash course there is a 30-minute beginner friendly workshop that will help you connect your basics to a fun song. This will be followed by a dance party that runs till late. There will be many other social dancers who will welcome a dance with you and help you to command the dance floor with your new dance skills! This dance party that is the opening night of the Best of the Best dance weekend is where you will get to experience the thrill and connection that is west coast swing.

What can you do next?

Once you have completed the classes and completely fallen in love with this dance, you can get a 50% discount into the rest of the weekend’s activities including 8 hours of dance workshops, professional dance demonstrations, 3 more dance parties, an optional chance to compete in the newcomers division, and the experience of being a part of a globally sanctioned event by the World Swing Dance Council. When you have completed your class, just ask our friendly event crew how to get your ticket!

Doors open at 6:45 pm.

Make sure you are checked in by 6:50pm so you can ask any questions, meet the team, and be ready for a 7:00pm start.
