To welcome the Year of the Monkey, City of Sydney has enlisted those who are the heart and soul of Sydney’s Lunar New Year celebrations.

CNY

For five nights only from Wednesday 10 to Sunday 14 February our Lunar Lantern installations will be brought to life with colourful and lively presentations courtesy of over 30 community groups from Sydney’s Chinese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese communities.

From 6pm to 7pm, visitors have the chance to stumble across a program of free live performances ranging in styles from traditional to contemporary music, dance and skills demonstrations.

In addition, the program features a suite of short festival performance pieces that have been inspired by the lanterns themselves and choreographed especially for the festival.

Keep your eyes peeled for 12 Barrel of Monkeys and our super cool Street Monkeys doing tricks through the air.  There are also mah-jong clad tap dancers at the Ox, balletic tai chi bunnies at the Rabbit, fierce warriors at the Dragon and floating ribbons at the Tiger.

This truly is a vibrant celebration of all of the communities that celebrate the Lunar New Year.
