Friday 15 January from 12pm to 1pm
Beirut-born Armenian pianist Zela Margossian brings her rich blend of musical cultures to the Sydney Town Hall Vestibule.
Based in Sydney while drawing on a variety of ethnic traditions, Margossian’s critically acclaimed jazz quintet will perform original work and arrangements inspired by the pianist's Armenian musical heritage.
Margossian, described as a “bright new force” by The Sydney Morning Herald, is a composer and pianist whose mastery of Armenian ethno-jazz and highly distinctive sound has won her a devoted following. Her group’s debut release, Transition, was nominated for an ARIA award in 2019 and won praise from _DownBeat _magazine for carving out an “entrancing and dazzlingly unique kaleidoscopic niche.”
For its Sydney Festival debut, the Zela Margossian Quintet will perform work from Transition alongside fresh tracks from the group’s upcoming release.
Sydney Festival is producing Covid-Safe events. Find out more on their website.
