Through moving imagery and an unexpected visual format, We Are Equal encourages audiences to reflect on the labels and assumptions that shape everyday life.
The installation invites visitors to consider what connects us beyond status, occupation or social identity, creating space for empathy, understanding and dialogue. Both engaging and reflective, the work offers a fresh perspective on the importance of inclusion and human connection.
Artist statement:
We Are Equal is a video installation that presents diverse representations of humanity within the windows of a slot machine. It explores ideas of hierarchy, status and social labels while emphasising the shared humanity that connects our everyday lives. The work invites viewers to reflect on equality as something lived and felt, rather than as an abstract idea. By removing titles and external markers, the installation highlights compassion, empathy and the universal bonds that bring us together. It serves as an invitation and a challenge to look beyond social distinctions, embrace vulnerability and honour our shared human experience.
Join the performers as they share their experiences and perspectives on equality and representation at the “Behind the Making of We Are Equal: Artist and actors Q&A" on 25 October from 11am-11.30am.
