The Sydney Sketchbook

Learn to use your sketchbook as a way of seeing and interpreting the world around you.

Learn to use your sketchbook as a way of seeing and interpreting the world around you, from first impressions to sustained studies and finished works in journals. Work from thumbnail sketches to rendered drawings using a range of media, from charcoal and coloured pencils to oil and chalk pastels, inks and watercolours.

Pollyxenia Joannou takes you on location around Sydney and teaches you how to transfer the immediate world into visual shorthand with jottings, notations and sketches, and to understand scale, perspective and composition so you can render an accurate and expressive record of your journey.

Classes are held indoors and outdoors (weather permitting) at sites such as Cockatoo Island and Carriageworks and on campus at the National Art School.
