In partnership with Australian Charity SolarBuddy, Northpoint Shopping Centre invites you to bring 100% sustainable light to impoverished communities across the globe. Play your part in improving the lives of children living in energy poverty by creating safe and reliable electricity with solar lighting made by your very own hands!
Each light made will form part of an impressive installation at Northpoint, before being sent across the globe.
What is energy poverty?
1 in 5 people worldwide to do not have access to modern electricity, that’s 1.4 billion people. Without access to clean energy families resort to using kerosene and other environmental pollutants for lighting which is expensive, dangerous and unhealthy for people and the plant. This situation severely impacts children as toxic fumes can damage their eyesight and lungs, and prevents them from studying after dusk, which means they are not developing the skills to break the cycle of poverty.
