Thabyay: Creative Resistance in Myanmar — Film & Panel

Join us for a free community screening of Thabyay: Creative Resistance in Myanmar, a powerful new documentary written and directed by Jeanne Hallacy.

Through the stories of four extraordinary leaders, violinist Phoe San, activist Susanna Hla Hla Soe, poet Maung Saungkha, and activist Thet Swe Win,Thabyay sheds light on Myanmar's ongoing people-power revolution and the impossible choices facing those who resist.

Some take up arms while struggling to stay true to non-violence. Others turn to "artivism", using music, poetry, and art to imagine a peaceful, democratic, and inclusive future for all people in Myanmar.

The evening will feature a choir performance, the documentary screening, and a panel discussion with Susanna Hla Hla Soe and writer Ma Thida in person, moderated by actor and Karen-Scottish pro-democracy advocate Tasneem Roc. Additional speakers from the film will join via Zoom.
