Test drive a makerspace kit

Drop-in for a demo of the latest robots and gadgets available to borrow.

Explore the new Green Square Library and get familiar with our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) equipment at this after-school drop-in series. Test drive kits from our makerspace collection, including robots, coding equipment and electronics.

Each Wednesday afternoon, one of our makerspace kits will be selected and demonstrated by experienced library staff. Become a library member to borrow and take one home.

Kits include

Edison Robot v2.0: 19 September 3:30pm – 4:30pm
Beginners can learn about robots using their computer or tablet to program this Lego-compatible robot in one of 3 languages. Drive Edison over pre-programmed barcodes to activate functions like ‘avoid obstacles.’ Ages 5+

Ozobot Bit 2.0: 26 September 3:30pm – 4:30pm
Tinker with this highly-programmable robot. Control it by drawing lines and colour segments or use a free online block-based programming editor. Create and send Ozobot through mazes and racetracks. Ages 6+

Sphero SPRK+ edition: 3 October 3:30pm – 4:30pm
Use a free app to control the ball via Bluetooth and take part in hands-on activities. This robotic ball inspires curiosity, creativity and invention through connected play and coding. Ages 8+

Circuit Scribe Kit: 10 October 3:30pm -4:30pm
Covering basic and advanced circuit concepts, build your own with a special conductive ink pen, magnetic modules and paper. For some finishing touches, add blinking lights and beeping buzzers. Ages 8+

Snap Circuits: 17 October 3:30pm – 4:30pm
Learn about electricity with reusable circuit components that clip together. Build a circuit with switches and lights or create one with touch circuits, sound effects and more. Instructions are easy, and no tools are needed. Ages 8+

This free event is suitable for ages 5+.
Some Makerspace Collection items are better suited to children over 8 years.

No bookings are required.
