Friday 5 November 2021 from 6pm to 7pm

Hear a panel of leading industry experts on creative placemaking as part of this year’s Sydney Open program.

Placemaking is a multifaceted approach to the creation of public space that positions community wellbeing at the heart of planning, design and management. Good placemaking enhances the urban experience and creates a dynamic space for inner-city residents and visitors to our capitals.

In this discussion, we will explore what placemaking is, and how we define public space. Breaking down ‘architecture speak’, we’ll look at exciting innovations and new technologies that impact our public spaces to improve accessibility and inclusivity in the urban environment. As Sydney emerges from months in lockdown, how might we also look to placemaking to support and foster the city’s creative and knowledge economies? Public spaces are designed to enrich our day-to-day lives, responding dynamically to evolving societal needs. What, therefore, are the key challenges and opportunities in ‘making a place’?

Join a panel of industry experts, moderated by Jess Scully, Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Sydney, to discuss collaborative approaches to creative placemaking in Sydney and the potential positive impact on its people and visitors.
