EastSide Radio FM89.7’s beloved presenters from the “Girl Talk” show bring their passion for jazz up close and personal at Foundry 616 with an all-star band: Andrew Dickson (drums), Peter Locke (piano), Carl Dewhurst (guitar), Brett Hirst (bass), Dan Barnett (trombone), Ray Cassar (trumpet) and Andrew Robertson (sax).

Susan Gai Dowling: Sydney’s ‘First Lady of Jazz’, dripping with nostalgia and six albums in her back pocket has been in constant demand as a jazz singer/songwriter/pianist at major venues and festivals in Australia and overseas for decades.

“Fine jazz singers … are as rare in Australia as driveable roads or drinkable pinot noir. Singer Susan Gai Dowling … a member of this elite club…made cosy music, overflowing with humanity and then spiked with surprises and moments of sadness. Her voice carried a velvet lushness in its mid-range, and a warm, unassuming, non-predatory sensuality…. creating an entire evening of music without even the slightest interference from the great satan of art: ego. So natural did it sound that it almost became jazz as folk music… One left the performance glowing.” – John Shand, The Sydney Morning Herald

“It was a joy to encounter once again the easy flare with which she breathes vitality into a song”. – John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald.

Sally London: From Birdland in New York, Tangier International Jazz Festival in Morocco, the Venetian Casino in Macau, a release on the EMI label which charted in Europe, and a string of original compositions which have been finalists in Australian and American songwriting contests – singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Sally London is “a chanteuse who is all platinum, classy and captivating and who has one of the best voices in this country”. Koop Kooper, Cocktail Nation – The Interviews

“Sally’s brazen, often playfully funny sensuality is like a splash of ice water underneath a desert sun. Her voice, sliding in between a sex-kitten purr and a soulful croon, is what microphones were made for.” – Music Industry News Network (USA)

“The public was carried away by the atmosphere that reigned on the stage, thanks to a remarkable performance given by the artist Sally London, one of the best composers/singers from Australia, who brilliantly moved from jazz to pop with her own compositions and a great sense of humour.” – Soleil FM, 93.5 (review of the 2015 Tangier International Jazz Festival)
