Last Minute Productions / Studio Redfern Community Centre present a 10-week FREE group singing program:
Week 1:
Acknowledgement of Country and Introduction
Ice Breaker – "Name & Favourite Song” to help everyone get to know each other. Introduction to singing and creating a safe, encouraging environment.
Basic posture and body awareness for singing.
Introduction to vocal warm-ups and why we warm up.
Simple breathing exercises (Hiss exercise, belly breathing and controlled exhaling).
Discuss musical interests and begin discussing songs that the students would like to learn throughout the term.
Week 2:
Physical and vocal warm-up activities.
Breathing exercises focusing on breath control and support.
Introduction to pitch matching and listening skills. - Counting Exercise Major Scale 1, 121, 12321
Choose a song
Learn the first section of the chosen songs.
Week 3:
Weekly vocal warm-ups.
Breath control exercises using sustained notes.
Explore vocal tone and healthy voice production (Placement and support)
Continue learning songs.
Pitch and rhythm exercise
Week 4:
Weekly vocal warm-ups.
Breathing support exercises
Explore dynamics (singing softly and loudly with control) - Crescendo HmMAH exercise
Continue learning songs.
Introduction to basic stage presence and performing with confidence. Confidence-building performance activity. - Positive affirmation/self-reinforcement “I' ve got this” .
Week 5:
Weekly vocal warm-ups.
Breathing exercises
Vocal expression and storytelling through lyrics.
Continue learning songs.
Introduce simple microphone technique (or performance posture if no microphone is available)
Begin to practice performing short sections in small groups.
Positive feedback and encouragement activity.
Week 6:
Weekly vocal warm-ups.
Breath control and stamina exercises.
Vocal technique review (pitch, diction and projection).
Continue rehearsing songs.
Introduce facial expressions, movement and connecting with an audience.
Mini performance practice.
Week 7:
Weekly vocal warm-ups.
Breath support exercises.
Continue rehearsing songs.
Stagecraft activities, including confidence, eye contact and performance skills.
Practise performing
Week 8:
Weekly vocal warm-ups.
Breath control review.
Continue rehearsing songs.
Focus on polishing vocals, confidence and stage presence.
Encourage students to think about how they would like to present themselves during their final performance (movement, expression or simple costume/accessories if appropriate).
Group discussion and peer encouragement.
Week 9:
Weekly vocal warm-ups.
Relaxation and breathing exercises to manage performance nerves.
Full rehearsal of songs.
Stagecraft practice including introductions, microphone technique and audience engagement.
Final performance preparation.
Week 10:
Final vocal warm-up and breathing exercises.
Final rehearsal and performance.
Celebrate each student' s progress.
Group reflection on what everyone has learned throughout the term.
End with a positive appreciation activity where students compliment each other ' s growth and achievements.
