St James talk: Pilgrimages

Gordon Cooper explores the history and theology of pilgrimage in the Christian faith.

Join us as we explore and discuss the theology behind pilgrimages, a feature of Christian devotion for centuries, and the extent to which this theology was reflected in popular understanding. The talk will be illustrated and pay particular attention to the popular Camino de Santiago (or ‘The Way of St James’) – the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.

Following this St James’ Institute event, the Choir of St James Church presents a concert of music inspired by pilgrimage at 5pm at St James Church.

To the Field of Stars

Marking the Feast of St James’ and inspired by the Camino de Santiago, trace the journey through France and Spain with The Choir of St James. Indulge in music associated with pilgrimage and the search for spiritual nourishment. Concluding with the glories of the Spanish Renaissance, our epic journey arrives in monumental Santiago de Compostela.

Music by Clemens non Papa, Victoria, Morales and Jackson’s To the Field of Stars (excerpts).
