A tribute to an imagination that dares to hear the improbable – Sydney Morning Herald
An elegant suite of electric-acoustic salon music, Vienna Dreaming is based on the life Keegan’s Great Grandfather Viennese pianist and Austrian refugee, Heini Portnoj, who arrived in Australia in 1940. Portnoj’s discovery of a new country and wistful longing for his homeland is strikingly evoked through a contemporary lens in this stunning reimagined work.
Matt Keegan (composer, tenor saxophone, clarinet), Veronique Serret (violin), Ben Hauptmann (guitar), Frejya Garbutt (musical director, synthesiser), Brendan Clark Jnr (electric bass), Miles Thomas (drums).
Special Support: Yulugi
A dialogue across cultures, Yulugi is a collaboration between song man Gumaroy Newman, descending from the Gamilaroi and Wakka Wakka nations of Northern NSW, and British/Australian artist Keyna Wilkins. Inspired by the Australian landscape and fauna, the duo create sonic soundscapes through improvised interplay.
