Shan Shui Australis showcases a mixture of Dapeng Liu’s landscapes and nude paintings. The term Shan Shui refers to the traditional Chinese painting style of using a brush and ink to represent landscapes or scenery from nature, rather than employing other typical forms of paint. Dapeng’s illusive landscape paintings explore the fusion of the East and the West, the old and the new, and the cyclical nature of time and space. Dapeng’s artworks are preoccupied with time and the notion that time is not linear nor fixed, but rather it is constantly in flux. The past, present and future intertwine and mesh together.
Born in Beijing in 1982, Dapeng Liu discovered his fascination with painting and drawing at the ripe young age of 4 when he began being mentored by his father. Since 2014 the artist has been concerned with his connection between the East and the West which is undeniably evident in his landscape paintings.
