15 films screen in special presentations, 12 films screen in the official competition, opening night comedy The Breaker Upperers (film-only tickets sold out) and closing night gala film Hearts Beat Loud (selling fast).
Hot tickets include indie icon Gus Van Sant’s Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot, Foxtrot, the Israeli military drama that earned the ire of the country’s culture minister and You Were Never Really Here, an edge-of-your-seat thriller that won Joaquin Phoenix the Best Actor award at Cannes. Hot official competition picks include the extremely timely new Spike Lee joint BlacKkKlansman, Australian feature Jirga, made under extreme and dangerous conditions in Afghanistan, and Debra Granik’s (Winter’s Bone, SFF 2010) new drama Leave No Trace, which recently landed a 5-star review in the Guardian.
