Friday 20 February from 4pm to 5:30pm
Join us for a presentation by Ian Gill, author of Searching for Billie: A journalist’s quest to understand his mother’s past leads him to discover a vanished China.
Ian Gill’s search into his mother’s past led him to learning about her experiences in wartime China, then further back into her family’s history, to the 1870s, and ultimately to her being decorated by Queen Elizabeth II for services to the United Nations.
The backdrop to her family’s story is China’s turbulent century from the Anglo-Chinese wars of the 1840s to the advent of Communism.
