Shim Chung, a story ballet based on the Korean folktale portraying the theme of "Hyodo" or filial daughterly devotion where the daughter, Shim Chung, sacrifices herself in the hope of restoring her blind father's sight.
The production was created in 1986 as part of the repertoire of Universal Ballet's World Tour, a groundbreaking global creation presenting an authentic story drawn from the Korean folktale in classical ballet form and technique. The Costumes are adapted from traditional Korean clothing, Hanbok, to accommodate ballet movements.
