Artist statement:

Ripples of Connection is a vibrant series of hand-painted contemporary Aboriginal artworks by Bindi Bindi Art, a creative collaboration between Wiradjuri artist Tay-la Shearley and Ngemba artist Chloe Eastwood.

Through layers of flowing lines, meeting places and natural motifs, the series celebrates the way connection, culture and community ripple across Country, from the city to the river, from one story to another. Each piece is individually painted yet interconnected, reflecting how the artists’ shared journeys have come together in movement, healing and belonging. The artworks are grounded in the artists’ deep ties to Dharug and Gadigal lands, paying respect to the stories held in these places.

Using joyful colour palettes of ocean blues, earthy ochres and sunset tones, the installation invites audiences to pause and feel the gentle rhythm of Country within the heart of Sydney. Together, the collection creates a visual dialogue of care and connection, honouring past, present and future stories while celebrating the continuing strength of Aboriginal cultures in contemporary spaces.

Artist bio:

Bindi Bindi Art is a creative collaboration founded by 2 Indigenous artists, Chloe Eastwood and Tay-la Shearley. Proud Ngemba and Wiradjuri women, they celebrate their rich cultural heritage while honouring their deep connection to Dharug and Gadigal land, which they also call home. As an LGBTIQA+ couple, Chloe and Tay-la are passionate about fostering diversity, inclusion and representation in their art and in the broader creative space. Their journey into painting began as a heartfelt exploration of their cultural roots, a way to nurture their connection to their ancestors and traditions. This evolved into a shared mission to create contemporary artworks that celebrate the enduring power of Indigenous culture to inspire, teach and connect. Chloe and Tay-la invite audiences to embrace and engage with the stories that shape their lives and the rich tapestry of First Nations identity in Australia.
