Richard Collins is a painter now living in Melbourne who for many years also worked as a cartoonist and illustrator for The Sydney Morning Herald.
Richard makes weekly excursions alone or with artist friends to paint en plein air, covid lockdowns permitting. This series of watercolours includes bushland, bay and suburban subjects from around Melbourne, as well as coastal NSW scenes made on family visits north.
He paints with a single large sable brush, enjoying the challenge of finding a variety of marks to capture the gist of his subjects, while leaving space for his compositions to breathe.
