Refugee Week: Shabnam’s Story

Join us for an Iranian inspired morning tea and hear from guest speaker Shabnam, a Refugee Ambassador with the Refugee Council of Australia.

In 1994, Shabnam and her family were forced to flee Iran due to the persecution of their Bahá’í faith.

Denied basic human rights and facing ongoing threats, they undertook a dangerous journey through mountainous regions into Pakistan in search of safety and freedom.

After seeking asylum, Shabnam and her family were granted the opportunity to resettle in Australia, where they began rebuilding their lives.

Shabnam’s lived experience has inspired a deep commitment to human rights and social justice.

Through sharing her story, she hopes to foster greater understanding of the experiences of displaced people and to highlight the strength, resilience, and contributions of refugees in our communities.

This is a wonderful opportunity to hear Shabnam's story and connect with one another over a lovely Iranian inspired morning tea from Parliament on King.

Parliament on King is a catering-focused social enterprise. Their mission is to serve beautiful food, while providing opportunities to asylum seekers, refugees, and newly arrived migrants to Australia.
