Autumn reading, sorted!
Read Japan is a 3-part talk series designed to introduce booklovers to contemporary writing from Japan that is available in English-language translation.
The speakers, all experts in Japanese literature, will focus on books published in the 1960s-70s, 1980s-90s and 2000-2020 that are available in translation. Each talk will look at the social and political context of the time, as well as important writers and movements, and offer a shortlist of recommended books to create a roadmap for exploring Japanese literature.
To assist with the journey, attendees will receive a 20% discount voucher from Books Kinokuniya Sydney, and will have a chance to win a book pack themed around the reading lists of each talk, also courtesy of Books Kinokuniya Sydney. Read Japan is for newcomers to Japanese literature, as well as more seasoned but adhoc readers of Japanese books. It is dedicated to any booklover who has ever felt a little at sea reading literature in translation.
Thursdays, March 11-25, 2021. Onsite (except Mar 11) & online attendance available. Free; registration essential. Presented by The Japan Foundation, Sydney.
