Queer Table Reads: Legally Blonde

When

Saturday 30 October 2021 from 7:30pm to 10:30pm

Cost

Starting from: $38

Queer Table Reads is a space for all-queer, all-comedian casts to read all-time favourite scripts from movies like ‘But I'm a Cheerleader’ and ‘10 Things I Hate About You’.

Produced and hosted by Sydney comedian Jenna Suffern, Queer Table Reads gives the queer community and allies a reason to just have a laugh in this weird, chaotic world we live in.

This Halloween, Queer Table Reads and Darlinghurst Theatre Company present the 2000s Reese Witherspoon classic - Legally Blonde. In the spirit of Halloween, we're going with the scariest theme we could think of: 2000s fashion trends! That's right, dress up as your favourite noughties film or TV character and let's shake off those lockdown blues with some "So Fresh" nostalgic bliss.

Come for the table read, stay for the 2000s-themed cocktails and tunes.

More about Queer Table Reads

Producer and Host Jenna Suffern creates a safe, inclusive, fun space for LGBTQIA+ people to express themselves, but that doesn't mean her ‘table reads’ are only for the queer community. They’re also loved by lovers of film and comedy. Live table reads are huge in cities like LA and are just gaining traction in Australia. LGBTQIA+ films always seem to end in heartbreak, angst and death. Boring! So let's switch it up by taking a heteronormative film that is loved by the queer community, and giving the script to an all queer cast to read live on stage.

"Table reads of cult romcoms bring nostalgia, escapism and hilarity to the audience. This is especially exciting for queer performers and audiences as our experiences are usually portrayed as angsty coming out stories or doomed love affairs. Adapting a cult 'straight' romcom for queer audiences provides us with an opportunity to write ourselves into those classic screen moments." - Jenna Suffern
