Monday 23 February from 6pm to 7:30pm
Sydney has long been Australia’s queer capital — home to the world-famous Mardi Gras, the vibrant Golden Mile of Oxford Street, and generations of LGBTQIA+ activism and culture that have shaped our identity. But this reputation has dimmed in recent years with venue closures, lock out laws, and shifting social landscapes.
Queer spaces are more than just places to gather — they are living archives, preserving the stories, struggles and triumphs of our community. What role do libraries and archives play in safeguarding these histories that might otherwise be lost?
Join Graeme Aitken, Maeve Marsden, Joy Ng and a special guest to eulogise some of Sydney’s ‘lost’ queer venues and dream up new possibilities for our future.
This event will feature a display of queer memorabilia from the Library’s collection.
