Queer Friendships Photography Exhibition

Queer Friendships is a participatory photography project celebrating queer friendship, intimacy, connection, care and chosen family.

Join us for the project’s first public exhibition, featuring black-and-white portraits created with 46 participants from Sydney’s queer community. The photographs were created through community photoshoots at Qtopia Sydney during Pride Fest and in the Inner West through the Creative Town Halls program.

Alongside the exhibition, visitors are invited to get creative and contribute to a series of free, relaxed activities throughout the evening. No art experience is needed and all materials are provided.

4pm–5.30pm | Poster collage

Cut, layer, rearrange and experiment with images, textures, colours and words to create your own collage. Come with an idea or simply see where the materials take you.

5.30pm–7pm | Zine Creation

Create your own mini zine exploring friendship, identity, connection or anything you’d like to express. Experiment with images, words, drawing and collage, and leave with your own handmade zine.

4pm–9pm | Participatory artwork

Help create a collective artwork throughout the exhibition. Add your own contribution using collage, paint, drawing, writing or mixed media. The work will evolve over the evening as different people add their own marks, ideas and interpretations of friendship and connection.

Come to see the photographs, make something, contribute to the collective artwork or simply spend some time with the community.

Queer Friendships acknowledges the Gadigal and Wangal peoples of the Eora Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which the project has been created and where we gather. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
