Poetry in the Gallery

With Nicola Bowery, Benjamin Dodds and Harry Laing

Join 3 sensational poets Nicola Bowery, Benjamin Dodds and Harry Laing for PoetryAlive at Stanley Street Gallery.

In the relaxed atmosphere of the gallery sit back and listen as the poets read their works. Signed copies of their collections will be available.

Nicola Bowery’s fourth poetry collection child in the wings (Walleah Press) is hot off the press. Described as ‘a stunning achievement’ (Melinda Smith) the work reflects on the nature of memory amidst childhood flashbacks.

what authority does the once-child
have to speak from her adult mouth
like a hybrid bird of prey
preying on its own chick-self
from child in the wings

Benjamin Dodds is the author of Regulator (2014). His poetry is published widely. He co-judged the inaugural Quantum Words Science Poetry competition in 2018 and is a reader for Overland.

With both hands I prise apart
my sister’s jaws She’s mad
with biting and by now I’ve
had enough
from Claire

Harry Laing will host the event, perform some of his satirical/absurdist poems and throw in a few political barbs.

I want paper, book me, give me a spine to bend
to hell with the blogs of ancient memory
I ask for the sloeblack line of language
lovely and long…
from Channelling Dylan Thomas
