Phil McKay is a Sydney based artist who works in a variety of mediums including acrylics, ink, gouache, charcoal and pastels. Phil’s creative focus is structures in the landscape, both urban and rural. He has a fascination with the angles roofs create against one another, the sky and landscape formation. Recent observations and work also include objects, structures and figures in the coastal environment. Phil has a disciplined, process oriented approach based in drawing and composition. He utilises his strong observation skills to subtract superfluous detail, relocate objects, identify single colour planes and develop opportunities to introduce complementary colour combinations that result in striking art works.
