Paul Reid Lecture: Urban design

Cooling the cities: advances in science and design for the mitigation of urban heat.

Please join us for the 12th Paul Reid Lecture in urban design for 2019.

Scientia Professor Mattheos Santamouris, Anita Lawrence Chair in High Performance Architecture at UNSW Built Environment, will speak about cooling the cities – advances in science and design for the mitigation of urban heat.

Speaker biography

Past professor at the University of Athens, Greece he is Visiting Professor at the Cyprus Institute, Metropolitan University of London; Tokyo Polytechnic University; Bolzano University; Brunel University; and the National University of Singapore. He is also a Past President of the National Centre of Renewable and Energy Savings of Greece. He is the editor of many scientific journals relating to sustainable cities, energy and environmental research in addition to his roles as author and editor of 15 international books on topics related to the urban heat island effect, urban cooling, solar energy and energy conservation in buildings.

Also scientific coordinator of many international research programs and author of almost 290 scientific papers.

The talk will be followed by  MUDD24 Master of Urban Development and Design Exhibition Opening: Urban Networks, Urban Gateways – Sydney, Boston, Fukuoka.

MUDD exhibition and reception: 8pm onwards.
